Who we are

Shot Scout is a photography planning app operated by Shot Scout Labs. Contact: shotscout@shotscoutlabs.com. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and how we protect it.

What we collect

Account information: name/display name, email, hashed password, optional photography preferences (shoot types, default location, gear).

Usage data: location queries you enter, saved shoots/breakdowns/calendar sessions, shoot type/vibe selections, anonymized app interaction events.

Google Calendar (optional): with your OAuth consent we read event titles, times, locations, and descriptions for up to 90 days to detect scheduling conflicts. We do not modify your calendar.

What we do not collect or do

We do not collect device GPS automatically.

We do not access your device contacts, photos, or files.

We do not use tracking cookies for advertising.

We do not sell or rent your data.

How we use your data

To provide and improve the Service (planning, conflict detection, personalization).

To secure accounts and prevent abuse.

Only the minimum necessary data is used for

Provide the core Service (location discovery, shoot planning, calendar features)

Generate AI-powered location breakdowns, gear recommendations, and best-day forecasts

Detect scheduling conflicts between your planned shoots and existing Google Calendar events

Authenticate you across sessions and devices

Improve the Service's accuracy and performance

Communicate with you about account-related matters (password reset, security alerts)

We share only the minimum information needed for these services to function (e.g., a location string sent to weather/geocoding APIs). We never send your account credentials or Google Calendar data to AI providers.

  1. Google API Services User Data Policy

Shot Scout's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Specifically:

We use Google Calendar data only to provide user-facing features (conflict detection during shoot planning)

We do not transfer Google user data to third parties except as necessary to provide the user-facing features, comply with applicable law, or as part of a merger/acquisition/sale of assets with notice to users

We do not use Google user data to serve advertisements.

We do not allow humans to read Google user data unless we have explicit user consent, it is necessary for security purposes, to comply with law, or for aggregated/anonymized internal operations

  1. Data Storage and Security

All data is stored on encrypted database servers (MongoDB Atlas)

Passwords are hashed using bcrypt with industry-standard salting

OAuth tokens are stored encrypted server-side

We use HTTPS/TLS for all network communication

We retain account data until you request deletion

  1. Your Rights

You have the right to:

Access the personal data we hold about you

Correct inaccurate information in your account

Delete your account and all associated data

Disconnect Google Calendar access at any time

Export your saved shoots and breakdowns

Opt out of non-essential communications

  1. Children's Privacy

Shot Scout is not intended for users under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

  1. International Users

Shot Scout is operated from the United States. By using the Service, you consent to your data being processed in the U.S., which may have different data protection laws than your jurisdiction.

  1. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced via email and a notice in the app. The "Last Updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
